Welding gloves: Type A or Type B
A welding glove must protect against sparks, small splashes of molten metal, contact heat and UV rays, while leaving enough dexterity to guide the torch or electrode. All models in this category are certified to EN 12477, EN 407 and EN 388.
EN 12477: the two types
- Type A: greater protection and lower dexterity, for MIG, MAG and stick welding with heavy spatter.
- Type B: greater dexterity and more limited protection, for TIG welding and precision work.
Grain or split leather
TIG gloves are made of thin grain leather, which lets you feed the filler material precisely. Split leather gloves, including those with a reinforced palm, are thicker and insulate better against heat in wire and stick welding. 14-inch models, about 35 cm, also cover the forearm.
Use and storage
Do not use wet or oily gloves, which reduce insulation and can burn more easily; replace them when the leather is hardened or holed or the seams are open. For handling and workshop jobs without welding, see leather and rigger gloves, or go back to work gloves.
Domande frequenti
What is the difference between Type A and Type B welding gloves?
Type A offers greater protection against heat and spatter and is suited to MIG, MAG and stick welding; Type B is thinner and more sensitive, suited to TIG welding.
Which gloves should I use for TIG welding?
Thin grain leather gloves, which let you feel the filler rod and the torch. For welding with heavy sparks you need thicker split leather gloves.
Why are welding gloves also certified to EN 407?
Because EN 407 measures resistance to contact heat and small splashes of molten metal, risks typical of welding.
How can I tell whether the welding glove I need is in stock?
The product page shows stock by size in our Milan warehouse and in the European warehouse and, if it is being restocked, the next arrival date.
