Flame-retardant waterproof jackets for outdoor work
An ordinary synthetic rain jacket can melt on contact with flame: where there is a thermal hazard you need a garment that is both waterproof and flame-retardant. The jackets in this category combine EN 343 rain protection with protection from flame and electrostatic charges.
Certifications to check
- EN 343: protection against rain, with classes from 1 to 4 (the higher the class, the better the performance); here you will find Class 3 and 4 models.
- EN ISO 11612 or EN ISO 14116: protection from heat and flame or limited flame spread; with EN ISO 14116 index 1 the garment must be worn over flame-retardant clothing.
- EN 1149-5 anti-static and EN 13034 Type 6 for light chemical splashes.
- EN 61482: some multi-norm models are arc-rated in Class APC 2.
- EN ISO 20471 Class 3 for maximum visibility near moving vehicles.
How to choose
For occasional use a lightweight flame-retardant coat is fine; for long shifts in the rain choose a hi-vis multi-norm jacket. Complete the outfit with flame-retardant waterproof trousers and, for the cold season, consider flame-retardant winter jackets.
Domande frequenti
Why not wear an ordinary rain jacket over a flame-retardant coverall?
Many common waterproof fabrics can melt or burn on contact with flame, cancelling out the protection of the garment underneath. Over a flame-retardant coverall you need a waterproof garment that is also flame-retardant.
What is the difference between EN 343 Class 3 and Class 4?
They indicate resistance to water penetration: Class 4 is the highest performance. The certified classes of each model are shown on the product page.
Are flame-retardant waterproof jackets also anti-static?
Most models in this category are certified to EN 1149-5; check the standards listed on each item's product page.
If a size is unavailable, when will it be back?
The product page shows the next arrival date for items being restocked, together with stock by size and colour.
