Gas and particle filters for respirators
The filter is the part that actually does the protecting: it must be chosen according to the substance in the air and the mask connection. In this category you will find gas filters, P3 particle filters and combination filters.
How to read the code
- EN 14387: gas and combination filters. A for organic gases and vapours, B for inorganic gases, E for sulphur dioxide and acid gases, K for ammonia and derivatives. The number indicates capacity: Class 1 low, Class 2 medium.
- EN 143: particle filters; P3 has the highest efficiency.
- A combination filter, such as A2P3 or ABEK1P3, protects against gases and particles at the same time.
Connection and compatibility
Filters are available with bayonet connection, special threaded connection or universal threaded connection to EN 148-1. Check that the connection matches your half mask or full face mask: a filter with a different connection does not guarantee a seal.
When to replace them
A particle filter should be changed when breathing becomes laboured; a gas filter when you can smell or taste the substance, or at the end of the period set in the replacement schedule. Filters are sold in packs of 2, 4 or 6.
Domande frequenti
Which filter do I need for paints and solvents?
Organic vapours require a type A filter; if there is also paint mist you need a combination filter such as A2P3. The choice should be confirmed by the product safety data sheet and the risk assessment.
What is the difference between ABEK1 and ABEK2?
Both protect against the same families of gases and vapours; the number indicates capacity: a Class 2 filter has a greater capacity than a Class 1 filter.
Will a bayonet filter fit a threaded mask?
No, the filter must have the same connection as the mask. The universal threaded connection is defined by EN 148-1.
What pack sizes are filters sold in?
Filters are sold in packs of 2, 4 or 6, as stated in each product name; prices are excl. VAT.
