Flame-retardant T-shirts and shirts
The layer next to the skin matters as much as the outer one: an ordinary synthetic T-shirt under a flame-retardant coverall can melt with heat. That is why flame-retardant T-shirts, shirts, tops and leggings complete protection from the inside.
Standards in this category
- EN ISO 11612 for heat and flame and EN 1149-5 anti-static on most models.
- EN 61482 for electric arc, often in Class APC 1.
- EN ISO 14116 on some garments: limited flame spread materials with index 1, 2 or 3 shown on the product page; garments with index 1 must not be worn next to the skin.
- EN ISO 20471 Class 1 or 3 and EN 17353 on hi-vis versions.
- EN ISO 11611 Class 1 and EN 13034 Type 6 on individual models: check the product page.
How to choose
In the warmer months a long sleeve flame-retardant shirt or T-shirt can be the main garment, if its standards cover the workplace hazards. Otherwise wear them under flame-retardant coveralls or flame-retardant jackets. For a collared garment see also our flame-retardant polo shirts.
Domande frequenti
What should I wear under a flame-retardant coverall?
Ideally a flame-retardant layer, such as a certified T-shirt or leggings, or natural fibres. Avoid ordinary synthetic fibres, which can melt with heat.
Can an EN ISO 14116 certified T-shirt be worn next to the skin?
Only if it has index 2 or 3: index 1 materials must be worn over garments with index 2 or 3, never next to the skin. The index is shown on the product page.
Are flame-retardant shirts suitable for summer use?
Yes, lightweight models are designed for hot climates; check that their standards cover the hazards of your job.
Are flame-retardant T-shirts available in all sizes?
Stock by size and colour is shown on each product page, with the next arrival date if the size is being restocked.
