Welding Glasses

Welding glasses and welding masks

Welding produces ultraviolet and infrared radiation and intense visible light that can damage the eyes even after short exposure. The correct protection depends on the process and on the intensity of the light produced.

The shade number

Welding filters to EN 169 are identified by a shade number: the higher the number, the darker the filter. Glasses with a shade 5 filter are suitable for gas work such as oxy-acetylene welding and brazing, not for electric arc welding, which requires much darker filters fitted to a mask. The glasses are also certified to EN 166 for mechanical strength.

Welding mask

The welding mask protects eyes and face from radiation, sparks and spatter; it is certified to EN ISO 16321, the newest standard for eye and face protectors. Replacement lenses, in packs of 5, replace lenses that are scratched or covered in slag, which reduce visibility.

Pair with

For gas welding there is also a gas welding goggle. All other eye and face protection is in the eye protectioncategory.
