Classic Iona Rain Coat
Lab coats for laboratories and electronics
A lab coat protects clothing from dust and dirt and makes laboratory, quality control and warehouse staff easy to identify. In this category you will find basic lab coats and anti-static ESD coats, plus a long waterproof enhanced-visibility coat for staff who frequently move outdoors.
Anti-static ESD coats: what they certify
ESD models are certified to EN 1149-5, the standard for garments that dissipate electrostatic charges, and EN 61340-5-1, the standard for protecting sensitive electronic components in EPAs. The coat only works if the wearer is earthed, for example with dissipative footwear and conductive floors or workstations. The model with knitted cuffs stops sleeves from rubbing against components.
Lab coat or waterproof coat?
The lab coat is a lightweight indoor garment worn over everyday clothing. The waterproof coat is certified to EN 343 Class 3 against rain and EN 17353 for enhanced visibility: it suits yards and loading areas, not roadworks, which require hi-vis clothing.
Managing coats across your business
Plan for at least two coats per person, so there is always a clean one while the other is in the wash. For food production areas see our food industry coats; to complete your ESD kit there are also anti-static T-shirts and shirts.

What is the difference between EN 1149-5 and EN 61340-5-1 on a coat?
EN 1149-5 certifies that the fabric dissipates electrostatic charges for the wearer's safety; EN 61340-5-1 covers the protection of sensitive electronic components in EPAs. The ESD coats in our range meet both.
Does an anti-static coat work with any footwear?
No, the coat only dissipates charges if the wearer is earthed. It must be used with dissipative or ESD footwear and with suitable floors or workstations.
Is the enhanced-visibility coat suitable for roadworks?
No: EN 17353 is designed for medium-risk situations. Roads and roadworks require certified hi-vis clothing.
Can I check available sizes before ordering coats for the whole lab?
Yes, each product page shows stock by size and colour in our Milan warehouse and our European warehouse, with the next arrival date if an item is being restocked.
